How to sync LinkedIn messages to HubSpot

Log LinkedIn DMs on the HubSpot contact timeline without copy-paste. HubSpot's default LinkedIn connection does not sync everyday chats. Here is the working path.

Published 13 September 2026

HubSpot does not sync everyday LinkedIn DMs through its default LinkedIn connection. The chats you send from the feed stay in LinkedIn unless you log them by hand, paste a summary onto the record, or use a capture extension with conversation sync.

Sales Navigator can log some InMail as HubSpot activities when both sides sit on eligible paid plans. That is not the same as syncing the DM thread you actually work. If the question is "how do I get this LinkedIn chat onto the contact timeline," the working path is: create or match the HubSpot contact, turn on auto-sync once, and let new messages land as timeline activities.

SurroundR is built for that last path. You stay on LinkedIn. HubSpot gets the thread.

What HubSpot actually logs (and what it does not)

HubSpot ships several LinkedIn connections, not one "sync every conversation" switch. Ads, Company Pages, and Lead Gen Forms are a different job. The native Sales Navigator panel is a viewing integration on eligible Sales Hub and Navigator tiers. It does not create contacts from the profiles you browse, and it does not write everyday DMs to the timeline.

If you still need the landscape of methods (manual entry, native tools, CSV, automation, capture extensions), read the LinkedIn to HubSpot methods guide. That page owns the comparison. This post is the hands-on path for message logging.

The contact has to exist first

Sync has nowhere to write if HubSpot has no matching contact. Capture the profile before you rely on the thread showing up.

One click from the LinkedIn page you are already on creates or updates the record: name, title, company, owner, lifecycle stage. Dedup matches on email, phone, or LinkedIn URL, so you update the existing person instead of spawning a Monday merge for RevOps. Enrichment runs on the same save through a waterfall of 20+ premium data vendors. Verified email and mobile write to standard Contact properties.

The HubSpot integration page is the product evaluation of that writeback (OAuth, scopes, objects, every HubSpot tier). Use it when you are checking permissions, not when you are logging a chat.

How to sync LinkedIn messages to HubSpot with SurroundR

  1. Install the Chrome extension. Add SurroundR from the Chrome Web Store. Two clicks, then you are back in LinkedIn. The getting started guide walks the install and HubSpot connect screens if you want screenshots.
  2. Connect HubSpot with OAuth. Approve the consent screen. No password sharing. Captures and timeline activities land on standard HubSpot objects, on Free through Enterprise.
  3. Capture the LinkedIn profile you are talking to. Open the person in the feed or in a conversation, then capture. If they already exist, the match updates them. If they do not, you get a new Contact instead of a note with nowhere to hang.
  4. Turn on conversation auto-sync. Enable it once. LinkedIn DMs and video messages in the thread post to the contact timeline without another click. Replies, links, and Chirps (in-thread video) are part of that same log.
  5. Confirm the thread on the HubSpot timeline. Open the contact. You should see the conversation as activities on that record, which is what pipeline reviews and handoffs actually read.

After that, logging is not a Friday chore. New messages in the synced thread keep landing. The Free tier includes 100 enrichment credits per month with no card, which is enough to prove capture and sync on real threads before you buy seats. Credits apply to enrichment on save, not to a separate "message logging" meter.

What shows up on the timeline

Auto-sync posts the LinkedIn DM thread to the HubSpot contact timeline. That includes replies in the same conversation and Chirps video messages you send from the thread. The point is a CRM that reflects the deal, not a reconstructed note you typed at 6pm.

It is not a dump of your entire LinkedIn inbox into HubSpot. You capture the people you are actually working. Sync follows those contacts.

If a manager asks "which conversations happened off-CRM," the honest answer after auto-sync is: the ones you captured. The rest were never in the system of record.

What this is not

This is not HubSpot Lead Gen Forms. Form fills from LinkedIn Ads are an ads-admin path into Contacts. They do not log the DM you sent after the form. Different job.

This is not "export my network to CSV and hope the messages come with it." CSV imports create or update records. They do not carry conversation history. If you are doing a list-building sprint, see list building from LinkedIn to HubSpot. Messages still need a sync path after the records exist.

This is not a full comparison of capture tools. Positioning and "best tools" live on the methods guide and the roundup. Link out when you are choosing a vendor. Stay here when you are logging a thread.

Why this matters for AEs, not only SDRs

SDRs feel the gap as tonight's list missing from HubSpot. Account Executives feel it at handoff. The thread that moved a buying committee lived in LinkedIn. The CSM inherits a sparse timeline and has to ask you what was said.

SurroundR for Account Executives is the persona page for that motion: DM sync plus Chirps, so the record your next owner opens already has the conversation. This post is the how. That page is the why for late-stage LinkedIn selling.

If you work deals in Sales Navigator rather than the main feed, the capture click is the same idea on a Navigator profile. The native Navigator panel still does not replace DM sync. The Sales Navigator to HubSpot workflow covers that path without re-teaching HubSpot's method table.

A note on competitors and native InMail

Some capture extensions log DMs or InMail as HubSpot timeline activities on eligible tiers. HubSpot's native Sales Navigator path covers some InMail on compatible plans, not everyday feed DMs. Database platforms and sequencers are a different job: they may sync contacts into HubSpot without logging the LinkedIn thread you are in.

Kaspr is a contact-reveal tool. Cognism is a B2B contact-data platform for cold outbound. Neither is a LinkedIn conversation log. If HubSpot is the system of record and the chat is happening on LinkedIn, you want capture plus timeline writeback, not another database tab.

Check the writeback, then install

If the timeline is empty after you message, work the list in order: is auto-sync on, did you capture this person, and are you looking at the matching HubSpot contact (same LinkedIn URL)? Sync cannot invent a record. It also will not backfill a year of old chats you never captured. It follows the contacts you put in HubSpot from this point forward.

When RevOps asks where messages go, point them at the HubSpot integration page: standard objects, dedup on email, phone, or LinkedIn URL, OAuth, EU-hosted, every HubSpot tier. When a seller asks how to stop pasting chats into notes, the steps above are the answer.

Install the extension, connect HubSpot, capture the person you are talking to, turn on auto-sync, and confirm the timeline. That is how you sync LinkedIn messages to HubSpot without copy-paste.
